Ahmedabad: Cooking under lockdown

"The lockdown is the best time to be with your family and enjoy each and everyone's favourite food dishes," writes Pooja Mehta from Ahmedabad, India. She shares a number of the delicious-looking dishes.

Currently, we are under "Lock-down 2.0" in India. It was supposed to last until 3rd May 2020, however, today the government has extended the lock-down for another two weeks: which will be until 17th May 2020. Cities in India have been divided into three zones which are 'red', 'orange', & 'green' zones. My hometown is Ahmedabad, and it is situated within a red zone.

In India, people are real foodies: we love to eat - always, in every situation and occasion. The lockdown is the best time to be with your family and enjoy each and everyone's favourite food dishes. We are a nuclear family with five members in the house: myself, my parents and my sister and brother.

As we belong to the Gujarati community, we love to prepare everything ourselves, at home, and enjoy it together. Here I am sharing a few pictures of the dishes we've prepared; with their names and a small description.

Pooja's dishes from left to right, top to bottom:

1) Khandavi - a Gujarati side dish; 2) Gulab Jamun - a sweet dish; 3) Paneer salad - a brunch dish; 4) Uttapam - a south Indian savoury pancake; 5) All five Tamilian rice variations in one dis; 6) Gujarati Thali - a main course that includes sweet and savoury dishes; 7. Chhole puri - a North Indian dish we eat as a main course; 8) Handava - a Gujarati pancake; 9) Coconut chutney - south Indian special chutney you eat with dosa, idaly, and uttapams; 10) Malpua - a sweet dish that is served as a main course or side dish.
